Pavillion
In 2012, the Korean society boiled up over the Presidential election. CHOE started to concern various themes, such as those who have and those who have not hide and those who try to conceal, power, money, biased media and so on. His interest seemed to be shifted to ‘human being’ and ‘life'. One night at that summer while he was working on developing concepts, he happened to see something like a strange animal passing by while drinking at the bar. He felt the odd feeling, so started to chase it. It seemed different with other animals such as dogs or cats that we could encounter often. Its unusual movement and speed stimulated him and made him to think that he is chasing a very special organism. But later, he found that it was a plastic bag flying in the wind. He realized that the truth, reality, and phenomenon could be easily manipulated by human consciousness or circumstances. It was the starting point for the work Pavilion. He attempted to express the sharp comparison between the most valuable things and the most vulgar things.
He plated the external surface of pavilion with 24k gold to symbolize its highest value. And at the same time, he installed the cheapest black plastic bag to be afloat inside the golden pavilion. The wings were placed on top of the pillars of the pavilion, and protected by the droopy angels who lost their power.
